1. Who we are
Bertram is a service operated by Giant Lambda Ltd (“Giant Lambda”, “we”, “us”), registered in England & Wales at 90 Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN1 2QP. We are the data controller for personal data processed through the Bertram service. You can reach us at contact@giantlambda.com.
2. What we collect
Bertram runs inside Telegram. To provide the service, we process:
- Your Telegram user ID, username, first name, and language code
- The content of messages, voice notes, images, and files you send to Bertram
- Tasks, reminders, preferences, and contacts you ask Bertram to remember
- Metadata about your use of the service (timestamps, message counts, feature usage)
- Basic technical data (error logs, diagnostic information)
We do not collect your Telegram phone number, contact list, or messages from other conversations.
3. How we use your data
- To operate Bertram and respond to your requests
- To maintain long-term memory so Bertram can learn your preferences and routines
- To execute tasks you delegate (research, scheduling, reminders, purchases you confirm)
- To improve reliability, debug issues, and prevent abuse
- To contact you about the service when needed
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your conversations to train AI models.
4. Legal bases (UK/EU GDPR)
We rely on performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) to provide the service you've requested, legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for service security and improvement, and consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) where required (e.g. optional features). You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. Sub-processors
We rely on a small set of trusted providers to deliver Bertram:
- Telegram — message transport (governed by Telegram's own privacy policy)
- Large language model providers (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI) — to generate responses. These providers are contractually prohibited from training on our data.
- Cloud hosting and database providers — to run the service and store your data
- Third-party tools you explicitly ask Bertram to use (search engines, booking sites, etc.) — only for the specific task you've requested
6. International transfers
Some sub-processors are based outside the UK/EEA (primarily the United States). Where this is the case, transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards under UK/EU GDPR.
7. Retention
We keep your conversation history and memory for as long as your account is active, so Bertram can remain useful over time. You can ask Bertram to forget specific items at any time, or email us to delete your account. Backups are purged within 90 days of deletion. Diagnostic logs are retained for up to 30 days.
8. Your rights
Under UK/EU GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@giantlambda.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
9. Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular review of our infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
10. Children
Bertram is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we will delete the account.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through Bertram or by email. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
